BQIC started doing spoken words in September 2017 as a means to raise money for campaigns and projects, as we are truly grassroots and donation-based. We’ve created a safe space for Black LGBTQIA+, QTPOC, and queer individuals to come together to share their stories, experiences, concerns, celebrations and loss through artistic expression. Throughout 2018, we’ve usually held two spoken words per month: one focused on local spoken word artists and the other with a specific featured artist. We often provide alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, food, and snacks as well as entry at a suggested donation so that anyone who wants to attend is able to. We’ve raised over $2k through our spoken words. Come out to hear great poetry and raise money for a good cause!
When we have the capacity, we expect to start our open mic back up on the 2nd week of every month. Stay tuned!
